  This time, I am going to take a break from the Top 5 In the NFL and talk about frustration. This year in the NFL there has been plenty of frustration in both players and teams. Some dreams dashed by injuries, players not having a good year, and bad coaching staffs.

   In 2004, Philip Rivers was drafted by the New York Giants. But he didn't stay there for long. He soon went to the Chargers and then had to wait a short but painful two years before he would eventually get to start. One year it was Drew Brees starting, then when Brees left, Doug Flutie took over, then finally it was his time to start. And what a way to make a statement. Throwing over 3,000 yards and 22 Touchdowns. Ever since then, he has never missed a game. I feel sorry for Rivers. He had high hopes, the fans had high hopes, and every football fan had hopes. I thought he was going to have a year better than last year. But so far his stats are:

• 13 Touchdowns
• 15 Interceptions
• 6 Fumbles
• 80.2 Passer Rating 

 These stats are pitiful. Last year he had a great year. Near 5,000 yards passing, 30 Touchdowns, and 13 Interceptions. No where near as good as last year. Major disappointment. But don't get me wrong. When the real Rivers comes to play, he is the best on the field. But when he doesn't play, he is as bad as a 3rd String QB. Every QB is entitled to mistakes, expect a better year next year.

 Disappointment Number 2 is Sam Bradford. This guy had such high hopes this year. He almost took his team to the playoffs last year but lost in the deciding game against Seattle. He although did win Offensive Rookie of the Year. This year has been a total opposite of last year. He has played 6 out of 9 games. Here are his stats

• 3 Touchdowns
• 3 Interceptions
• 3 Fumbles
• 72.3 Passer Rating

 This is disappointing. I understand being injured for a few weeks contributes to this, but still what about the 6 game he did play. Is it him or just his Wide Receivers lack of catching ability. Only two years of experience doesn't give us much to predict by. I guess we will see how the rest of the season goes for him.

 The final frustration has got to be the Carolina Panthers. I mean look at it. A huge draft pick Cam Newton who has done wonders for his team's offense. Then the season is ruined by injuries. Training camp, David Gettis tears his ACL. Game one, tragedy. Jon Beason is injured for the season with an Achilles injury. Then the next week, Thomas Davis is a out for the rest of the season. Then just recently, Offensive Lineman, Jeff Otah is out for the season with a knee injury. This team was ruined due to injuries. Hard to stop the run and have a chance at the pass if you do not have any good Linebackers. Another problem is the secondary. It stinks. They have only had 5 Interceptions this year. If this team was healthy you better believe that they would be a serious contender this year. But Newton has impressed me. He has faced these star defenses for the first time and he has handled them very well. Just imagine how he will do with another year of experience under his belt.

The Top 5 Quarterbacks in the NFL: 2011

Quarterback Number 5-Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

 My Number 5 Quarterback is Ben Roethlisberger from Pittsburgh. This guy has done a great job in the 7 years that he has been playing in the NFL. He has gone to three Super Bowls, XL, XLIII, and XLV, and has won two, XL and XLIII. So is it safe to say that he is a vet? Yea I would say so.

 So far this year, he has had an average year. As usual, he has had interception trouble. Last year was an exception with only 5, he usually reaches double digits. His rushing the football has also caused some issues with holding on to the football. Here are his stats this year:

• 2,300 Passing Yards
• 14 Touchdowns
• 7 Interceptions
• 6 Fumbles
• 95.7 Passer Rating

 Like I said average stats. The 6 Fumbles is definitely something that Tomlin needs to work on with his QB. His passing yards are nice and so are the Touchdowns.
 
 I personally expected more TD's. I mean look at all the weapons. Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, and Hines Ward. This guy possibly one day could be in Canton.



Number 4-Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

 The Number 4 Quarterback is Matthew Stafford out of Detroit. Only 3 years of football and he has missed a good deal of it due to injuries in his first two years. Both the same injury. Shoulder injuries in 2009 and 2010. So far this 2011 season he has made it mostly injury free. A little scare with an ankle injury but he played through it.

  It is hard not to have a great year when you have such great teammates as Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, Brandon Pettigrew, and Jahvid Best. Each one of these guys is a key part of Matthew Stafford's game. Here are his stats:

• 2,179 Passing Yards
• 19 Touchdowns
• 4 Interceptions
• 2 Fumbles
• 99.1 Passer Rating

 A very good year for Matthew Stafford and it is only halfway through the season. I am partial to the Lions, so I believe that they have a good chance of becoming a Super Bowl team.


 Matthew Stafford is very young and has a very nice looking future in the NFL. It is a little early to say there is a spot in Canton with his name on it, but I wouldn't rule it out.







 Number 3-Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

  QB Number 3 is Drew Brees of the Saints. This guy is without a question a veteran in the NFL. 11 years and only two teams is very good. He was drafted in 2001 by San Diego and a few seasons of shine. But he never really did anything worth while until 2006 when he went to New Orleans. Having a season better than he had with San Diego. Then a few years later in 2009, he helped lead his team to a Super Bowl win against Indy.

  This year has been a very good year for Brees. The only problem has been his Interceptions. He normally has a little problem with coverage reading. I also believe he needs some better receivers. Now here are his stats so far through this year:

• 2,746 Passing Yards
• 19 Touchdowns
• 10 Interceptions
• 0 Fumbles
• 100.6 Passer Rating

 Like I just said, Interceptions are his only problem. He would be the perfect QB if he could just improve his amount of Interceptions.
I expect that he will go to another Super Bowl before too long. They have the talent on their team. The time just needs to come.














Number 2-Tom Brady, New England Patriots

  The QB Number 2 is Tom Brady from New England. Brady is so popular, even some people who don't even like football know who this guy is. The worst thing happened for Brady in 2008. The first game of the Regular Season, he gets injured. Out for the season. That allowed Matt Cassel, who now plays for the Chiefs, to step up and show what he had. So far Brady has kept injury free since and has had a very good career so far. A special highlight was last year, only throwing 4 Interceptions on the season.

 This year is not like last year for Brady. His season is good but not perfect. More interceptions and less touchdowns than usual. It seems like with the right pressure he gets rattled easier than usual. To show how the year has gone, here are his stats:

• 2,361 Passing Yards
• 18 Touchdowns
• 8 Interceptions
• 1 Fumble
• 104.4 Passer Rating

 Is Brady losing his touch? I think 12 years in the NFL is catching up to him. If he does get injured, I think they have a solid backup, Ryan Mallet out of Arkansas. So at least if something does happen to Brady, they have some insurance. I think we will see a few more years of Brady.







Number 1-Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

We have finally reached the Number 1 Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay. This guy has had quite a career. From playing at a nothing college, to going to California, then in the NFL being in the shadows of Favre, to now when he helped win his team a Super Bowl. He is so young and I know, and you all know that he will be there for a while. All the weapons he has is unbelievable. Another Super Bowl is in the making.

This year has been another great year for Rodgers. His team is undefeated. And the way his stats look he will be a threat for the rest of the season if everything goes there way. Well, let me show you the stats that prove he is number 1:

• 20 Touchdowns
• 3 Interceptions
• 1 Fumble
• 125.7 Passer Rating

 WHAT NUMBERS. The guy has only 3 Interceptions on the year. QBs from other teams average around more than 5 right now. This guy is going to be around for a long while. Expect it.

Number 5-James Harrison, Pittsburgh Steelers
  James Harrison from Pittsburgh is the Number 5 Linebacker. This guy has gotten a lot of mess from the NFL for the past few years because of his rough, or I should say amazing, playing style. Just how aggressive he is, brings fear to whoever has the ball.

  He was the one who pretty much brought on the whole "fining players for hard hits". So I guess you could say he is a pioneer of aggressive play. When I show the stats, you will see that they
 are low. That is mainly due to a right broken orbital socket. Yea, I know, painful. But for playing only 4 games these are good stats, here they are:

• 23 Tackles
• 2 Sacks
• One of these sacks against Indy the other against Seattle
• Both sacks combined for 13 yards of loss

 Like I said he only played 4 games. More like 3 and a half because he was taken out halfway through the game. A statement was issued by Harrison, saying that it was up to the doctor's whether he was clear for play or not. If he does come back then that will be a good break for the Steelers defense. Hall of Famer? If he can keep up the rate he has had from the past 4 years, with more than 10 sacks a year, then he will be.




Number 4-Von Miller, Denver Broncos

 The Number 4 Linebacker is Von Miller, out of Denver. It is for sure that Denver has found them a very good Linebacker that always has the scent of the football. This guy had extremely high hopes coming out of Texas A&M. Probably the thing that the Broncos liked was the nose for the QB. Rookie year:

Last year he had 10 sacks and the year before 17. So it is obvious he gives QB's nightmares. Very understandable that the Broncos used their first draft pick on him. Here are his stats for his

• 26 Tackles, 21 were solo

• 6 Total Sacks
• Has had at least one sack 5/7 games
• 2 Forced Fumbles

This guy has a huge future in the NFL. Rookie year and he has done so well. The sky is the limit at such a young age. A lot of teams would give up their best players for a player like him. When you can get to the QB and can get to the football, that is potential for a long playing time in this leauge.



Number 3-Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens

 Perhaps, one of the most aggressive Linebackers I have ever seen. He is a tackle machine and it is understandable why. Look who he has as his mentor. LB Ray Lewis. You can not go wrong if  he is on your side.

 Last year, Suggs had 11 sacks and it is looking like he will break it this year. His team's defense is looking like playoff material.  So to show how he has been doing this year, here are his stats this year:

• 33 tackles, 26 solo
• 6 sacks
• 2 Forced Fumbles
• 1 Interception

 Every bit of this 6'3'', 260 lb Linebacker makes people hurt. He is a weapon in himself. And I would not want to face him play after play. Expect a few more years of this guy and a possible Hall of Fame spot.


Number 2-Patrick Willis, San Francisco 49er's

 This guy is a definite vet in the football world. He has been playing the game since 2007. He has been Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2007 and he has been to the Pro Bowl every year since the year he has been in the league. Willis has also been known has one of the hardest hitting defensive players ever. Now here are his stats for this year:

• 1 Sack
• 1 Forced Fumbles
• 2 Fumble Recoveries

 Now most of you are thinking one sack, is that all? Sacks do mean something. But tackles mean something too. If you can get to the ball carrier, that is almost as good as a sack. I think after only 5 years of play, this guy will have a bust of him in Canton one day. Count on it.





Number 1-Ray Lewis, Baltimore Ravens

 At last we have reached the Number 1 Linebacker in the NFL. It is Ray Lewis out of Baltimore, this would make my second Linebacker out of Baltimore in this post. There is an easy reason why Lewis is the number one linebacker. He has: Been in the NFL 16 years, has been to the Pro Bowl 12 times, has one Defensive Player of the Year, etc.

  Do I believe that Ray Lewis is done after this year. No I don't. Even though this guy is getting up in age, he still has alot in him. Here are his stats:

• 55 Tackles, 43 Solo
• 2 Sacks
• 2 Forced Fumbles
• 1 Interception

 Halfway through the 2011 season, it has gone very well for Lewis. He is more than halfway to 100 tackles, and it is highly possible that he could exceed that amount. Kinda makes a person excited to see such a player.

Sadly with the lockout, there wasn't enough time to get the players conditioned right. They missed a good two to three weeks of training camp due to the lockout. This put every team behind because they didn't get the physical training they needed. But there are also injuries that sometimes have nothing to do with the lockout. Sometimes something happens wrong and you are out of service for a while. I am going to go through a list of the key injuries to teams this year.

RB-Ryan Williams,Arizona Cardinals

Arizona played Green Bay during a pre-season game on August 19th. Ryan Williams took the ball from Kevin Kolb and was hit by a Green Bay tackler. And that was the beginning of the end to a great season. Ryan Williams was a terrific Halfback for Virginia Tech. And I really felt sorry for the guy. Imagine looking forward to playing in the NFL for months, and then you get knocked out in the preseason. It was confirmed that the next day, he had a ruptured tendon in his knee and would be a season ending injury. He had high expectations by a lot of people and now they will have to wait until next year. Here are his stats at Virginia Tech last year:

• An Average of 4.3 yards per carry
• 9 Touchdowns
• 1 Reception Touchdown

Now the reason the stats are so low is because he was injured Weeks 4-7. But it was a disappointment for the Cardinals and Cardinal Fans that day. Now they have to wait til next year to see how this 2nd Round, (68'th Overall) draft pick will do.

QB-Chad Henne,Miami Dolphins

On the afternoon of October 2nd in San Diego, Chad Henne snapped the ball, on what was supposed to be a handoff and missed. He was hit and fell to the ground, landing awkwardly on his arm. The next morning reports stated that he was going to have surgery on the shoulder he injured. Meaning he is out for the season. Now the team is left with Matt Moore as the starting QB for the rest of the year. Here are his stats for the 4 games he did play:

Experts are believing that game against the Charge was the last game Henne would play for Miami. That is possible. If the Dolphins could get a QB in the draft next year, that is entirely possible. But, who knows, at the end of the season they could be happy with Matt Moore. But look for Henne on the free agency list sometime in the near future.

K-Nate Kaeding, San Diego Chargers

On September 11, it was kickoff time as San Diego played, at home, Minnesota. Nate Kaeding runs and kicks the ball off then sprawls on the ground, obviously in pain. He was taken out on a cart and didn't return for the game. MRI results showed that he had torn ligaments in his knee. He would have to have surgery and would be out for the season. Now this kicker will be missed and be expected to have a great season. Here are his stats from last year:

• 2 tackles

I know it was a disappointment for Kaeding to be out for the season but he knows he will be back unless something awful happens. Expect this guy to be in your fantasy football lineup again next year.

The Top 5 Running Backs In the NFL

RB Number 5- Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers

Running Back Number 5 is, Ryan Mathews out of San Diego. I watched this guy on his debut preseason game and I was shocked. This guy was amazing. Breaking wimpy tacklers everywhere. Getting about 10 yards per carry. Looks like he is going to be around for a long time. Only his second year in the NFL and he is on his way to Canton. Here are his stats so far this year:

• 413 Rushing Yards
• 3 Touchdowns, one for 100 yards or more
• An average 4.9 yards per carry
• An average 82 yards per game

The reason I ranked him so low, is because he hasn't scored a Touchdown in his last 2 games. Even though he has rushed for over a hundred or close to a hundred yards. But I expect him to keep getting better each year.

Running Back Number 4-Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders

My Running Back Number 4 is Darren McFadden out of Oakland. I remember when this guy was drafted in 2008. I knew that someday he would be worth something in the NFL. Because I saw him play at Arkansas and there was something special. Turns out I was right. After he proved he was better than Michael Bush and Justin Fargas, then he was named the starter. Now this guy is known for his amazing speed, extreme power, and a jaw-breaking stiff arm. He is on track for the best year of his 4 years in the NFL. Here are his stats:

• 3 Touchdowns, 2 for 100 yards or more
• Average 5.7 yards per carry
• Average 103 yards per game
• 1 TD Reception

Future Hall of Famer. I think so. Considering that last year 6 of his 7 touchdowns were for 100 yards or more. I think he could do more for the team if they used him a bit more. If they do that I except him to be in Canton, Ohio in the future.

Running Back Number 3-Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills

The Running Back Number 3 is Fred Jackson out of Buffalo. This guy has exploded into the NFL. He has been average from his Rookie year in 2007 till last year. But he has been an absolute beast this year. Except for a few carries that have gone to CJ Spiller, the carries have been all for him. I wouldn't say future Hall of Famer yet, but we shall see. Here are his stats:

• 5.3 yards per carry
• An Average 96 Yards Per Game

Like I said earlier, not quite Hall of Fame material yet. A few weeks or a year doesn't mean anything. Now if he can have several consecutive years of solid yardage and touchdowns then I will say Hall of Famer. But not not now.

Running Back Number 2-LeSean McCoy,Philadelphia Eagles

The Number 2 Running Back is LeSean McCoy out of Philly. This guy is a danger every single time he touches the ball. He has been a nightmare this year for every team except San Fran. Even though he is playing for one of the worst teams in the NFL right now, he is one of the few bright spots on the team. His Rookie year out of Pittsburgh Univ., was not a bright and happy one. He had very few yards and the same with touchdowns. But last year and for the most of this year he has really shown his colors. Green all the way. If he had a better team, then he might be better. Here are his stats this year:

• 5 Touchdowns, 2 for a hundred yards or more
• An Average 83 yards per game
• An Average 5.8 yards per carry

This is a Running Back with unimaginable potential. This is only his 3rd year in the NFL, he has probably got at least another 8 years in this league, if he can remain injury free and scandal free. What can happen in those 8 years. Lord only knows.

Running Back Number 1-Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings

We have at last made it to the Number 1 Running Back. Adrian Peterson out of Minnesota. The word, "Wow", is too small to describe this guy. Too small to describe such a great runner. Minnesota knew they had something special when they drafted this guy out of Oklahoma. He proved he was going to be the starter from day one. Especially in 2009 when he scored 18 touchdowns. Here are the stats for this player:

I think everyone would agree on my choice for Number 1 Running Back. This guy is going to be in the Hall of Fame, for sure. At such a young age, records will be broken by the end of his career.

TE Number 5- Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers

My number 5 pick is Greg Olsen. Yes, I just said Greg Olsen. Even though he went to the Panthers, he has been a popular target for "Young Newton". So far this year he has had a TD in the past 3 games and

is on a track to do better than he ever did with Chicago. At his current status he is better than the average Tight End but not the best. So far he has:

• 20 Receptions
• 240 yards Receiving
  
• 3 Touchdowns
• An average 48 yards per game

Expect many more years of this young Tight End and he can only get better. Newton should aim for him alot more because the talent is there all he has to do is tap into it.

TE Number 4- Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49'ers

Vernon Davis from San Francisco is my Number 4 Tight End. Some people may think he needs to be ranked higher. I put him this low because he doesn't have the right QB. Alex Smith has improved but still he should aim for him more often. Fantasy owners like myself, have been somewhat pleased but not satisfied. He is barely better than Olsen. For example, his stats:

• An average 52 yards per game

Vernon Davis has been great throughout the years. As soon as the 49ers can get a decent QB, things will start to look up.

TE Number 3- Aaron Hernandez, New England Patriots

Aaron Hernandez from New England is my Number 3 Tight End. This guy is super young but he has so much potential. He was drafted in 2010 out of Florida. He was a favorite of Tim Tebow, and now he is becoming a favorite of Tom Brady. He hasn't done much this year. A knee injury has limited him to 3 out of 5 games. He missed key games against Buffalo and Oakland. But he is better and his stats will improve greatly. So far this year his stats have been:

• 2 Touchdowns
• 221 Receiving yards
• Average 73 yards per game

Like I said earlier his stats will improve, IF, he can stay healthy. He will have to compete with Gronkowski but I believe Brady will go to Hernandez more. Expect great things from this guy.

TE Number 2-Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers

Jermichael Finley out of Green Bay is my Number 2 pick. Why him? Mainly because of Aaron Rodgers. He is a spectacular target for Rodgers and apparently Rodgers knows it. He is on track for a record setting year. But some teams are wising up and not letting him into the endzone. But with the schedule easing up a little we should see some Touchdowns out of this man. Now here are his stats:

• 3 Touchdowns
• An Average 60 yards per game

Like I said earlier, with a few easy games coming up he should get more receptions and more touchdowns.

TE Number 1- Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

Here we go the #1 TE in the nation is Jimmy Graham out of New Orleans. This beast has had over 100 yards in 3 games. He is spectacular and Pro Bowl bound. He absolutely wracked havoc against Carolina and Jacksonville. Brees has a dangerous weapon besides his great Wide Receivers. This is only his second year and he is this successful. Here are his stats:

History of An NFL Player: DeAngelo Williams

The Carolina Panthers, in 2006, made their choice for their 1st draft pick. DeAngelo Williams, Running Back, out of Memphis University. I remember that day, and my very first reaction was, "Huh, who is this dude who favors Steve Smith?" But I think it was a great choice to draft this guy, and I will explain later.

In 2002, DeAngelo was recruited by Memphis. In his Freshman year he wasn't too good, even though he rushed for 600 yards, he only scored 5 touchdowns. But in his last 3 years of college he made sure that he was going to be the starter for the rest of the way. 2004 was his most noticeable year. With more than 20 touchdowns and almost 2,000 yards. He broke NCAA records. He had 34 straight games with more than 100 yards rushing. He ranks 4th with the most rushing yards in the NCAA. And the most all-purpose yards in the NCAA. He also led his team to victory in the Motor City Bowl by rushing for over 200 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Surprisingly before the draft, his ranking dropped rather a lot. But the Carolina Panthers saw something in him and took him in the first round.

In the 2006 and 2007 years, DeAngelo didn't get a good chance to showcase his talents. Due to being a backup to RB Deshaun Foster. Foster was released in 2008, and it officially made Williams the starter. In the 2008 Draft, Jonathon Stewart from Oregon went to the Panthers. Then Williams has a new partner. And what a combination these two have been. But in 2008, even with split carries Williams still had 18 touchdowns and was hard to bring down. In 2009 when Williams was injured in the last 3 games of the season. Then last year, Panther fans were disappointed when Williams was injured in Week Six. He was out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The new Panther staff was unsure whether they wanted to keep Williams with two years of being injured. They did sign him and so far has been doing good and has an opportunity at a young age to become a future Hall of Famer.

Alabama, A Possible BCS Threat?

Ok, it has been a while since the last time I wrote on my blog but there is a topic I just gotta talk about. Now some talk is about Alabama. This team has alot to prove. This year they lost Greg McElroy, Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Marcell Dareus, and more. Last year they started off very hot but dropped the ball when they played South Carolina in Week 6. Late in the 4th Quarter, a bobbled pass into the hands of a Gamecocks D-back put Alabama out of reach. With a #8 ranking they played Mississippi, won, and moved to #7. Played Tennessee, won, moved up to #5. Then they lost it again. They played LSU and they never regained their #1 spot.

Alabama still has the great coach, Nick Saban. They also have a fairly good lineup. It is not the best but it is fairly good. The have A.J. McCarron. He is a Sophomore QB. He played some last year and did good when he played. He

made 30-48 passes, which is really good. They also have Trent Richardson. Richardson is a Junior this year. He is familiar with playing. He got quite a few carries last year and did good when he got the ball. With 112 carries he averages over 6 yards per carry. That means with two runs, he could get a first down. His average was better than Mark Ingram, which is surprising. The wide receiving core is average this year. They have a senior, Marquis Maze, that got his fair share of catches last year. This year he doesn't have Julio Jones to share with. Defense is still good as well. We have Strong Safety, Mark Barron and Linebacker Dont'a Hightower.

Now, are the Tide a BCS threat? I dont think so. They are not the team they used to be. They might surprise me but I highly doubt it. I predict a 9-4 season. They have a partly easy and hard season. They play possible easy teams like Kent State,North Texas, Vanderbilt, and Georgia Southern. National Championship, no. SEC championship, no. There are way better teams than this. My prediction is South Carolina will be the team to beat. Wild prediction, yes. But they are looking hot. That is it for The Right Field this time. Later.

Duke ACC Tournament Part I

On the date Friday, March 11, 2011; the Duke Blue Devils played against the Maryland Terrapins. In the first half Maryland tried very hard to keep it a close game but Duke won out in the first half by a lead of 42-33. In the second half tragedy almost stopped the Devils in their tracks. Star player, Nolan Smith, jammed his toe late in the game. He didn't return but he did show signs that he might return. Duke won the game 87-71. Kyle Singler was the player of the game with a total of 29 points. He was also 10-15 FG, 0-4 3P, and 9-9 FT. Great news for the Devils is that their star player Kyrie Irving is practicing and running briskly. They are hoping that he will be availible to play in the NCAA Tournament. Duke looks forward to playing either the Hokies or the 'Noles Saturday night.

Yogi Berri Takes Fall in Team Clubhouse

Just today former NYY catcher Yogi Berri took a fall in the team's clubhouse. He was taken to the hospital and was later released with only a few bruises.

Carolina Panthers, Who Are They Eyeing?

There is some great discussion over who the Panthers will take with their First Round Draft Pick. Coach Ron Rivera has been eyeing, Heisman winner Auburn QB, Cam Newton. They also have been eyeing several Defensive and Offensive Linemen. But Rivera also has to be thinking do they really need another young QB. Rivera needs to figure things out because the NFL Draft is less than a month away.

So this week is Week 8 of the NFL Regular season. It is hard to believe that it is week 8 already. It seems like it should be Week 2. So what is my matchup for this week? It would be Pittsburgh vs. New Orleans. First off the Steelers, they now have Roethlisberger back; so what! I thought they did good enough without Big Ben. Personally I am not that much in favor of him after his little "incident". The Steelers have surprised me. I thought they would be nothing without Santonio Holmes. But they still have Hines Ward who is still tough as nails after being in the league for ages. The problem is though they are one of the worst in throwing yards. There defense is great but their offense is not one of the best.

Now for New Orleans, they are still good but 4-3 is not Super Bowl material. Drew Brees is letting down fantasy football owners everywhere. I knew better and got Schaub and Rodgers. Plus their running game. In the first few weeks they lost Reggie Bush to a broken leg and Pierre Thomas with a ankle injury. Brees has an arm but he hasn't shown it so far. The Saints defense is really good; against the pass. They maybe can beat Roethlisberger but I just don't know. Well pick time. I am saying the Steelers to win. I will be back next week with my pick.

So far in my picks I am 1-1, Baltimore won 17-14! So this week there are several good matchups this week it was hard to decide. But the one I picked was Philadelphia vs. San Francisco. These teams are not the best but not exactly the worst either.


Philadelphia is 2-2, but they have played some tough teams and key injuries have pushed them to the limits. Andy Reid has been rather fickle with his QB's. First Kolb got injured, then Vick was injured, and now Kolb is back as starter. They have CB's that are injured and a FB that is injured. They are going to have a challenge Sunday because the Niners have a tough team too. I bet the Eagles are begging for McNabb to come back. They did better last year with him.


The 49'ers are not having a good year. They are 0-4 and are just not cutting it. They have come close to winning every game they played. Like when they played the Saints. They lost by a Field Goal. Then last week they lost by 2 points to Atlanta. I can tell that Mike Singletary is frustrated with his team. I mean first the fight between Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree during training camp really got Singletary riled.


I can tell that this is going to be a good game Sunday night. I am predicting the Eagles to win. The Niners will make this close but the Eagles are going to win.

This week in the NFL some key events happened. Sunday evening, the Redskins are playing the Eagles. Quarterback ,Michael Vick, takes off on a scramble and gets up wincing. He was sent back for a MRI and it turns out he has some torn rib cartilage. So most likely he will not play next week against the 49er's. Then in the same game, RB Lesean McCoy was injured in the first half with a rib fracture but was able to play through the injury. Also WR Riley Cooper and CB Asante Samuel suffered mild concussions in the game. Then to add insult to injury(literally) they lost to the Redskins.

Carolina vs. New Orleans: In the 3rd Quarter, Quarterback Jimmy Clausen, threw a little pass to WR Steve Smith. Smith lost his balance after a short run and fell on the sidelines clutching his leg. He eventually got up and limped off the field with the help of trainers. After X-Rays he has and ankle injury and is expected to not play next week against the Bears. Sadly the Panthers lost to the Saints after a last second incomplete pass.

Green Bay vs. Detroit: During the second quarter, Morgan Burnett, SS for the Packers, suffered a knee injury and didn't come back into the game. Later tests showed that he has a torn ACL and will be out for the season. The Pack are in a pickle because they are already out one SS, so they will use just one of their safteys. The Packers won the game 26-28. Aaron Rodgers threw for 3 touchdowns to help his team win.

Tennessee vs. Denver: In the first half of Sunday's game, Derrick Morgan, DE for the Titans, was injured and was out of the game. Afterwords they found out he has a torn ACL and will likely be out for the seasons. Sadly the Titans lost to the Broncos and will be 2-2 going against the Cowboys this week.

So last week I picked the Texans over the Cowboys. Boy was I shocked,along with a lot of other people, when the Cowboys won. Now this week my game of the week is Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh. I guarantee that this will be a close game. I doubt it will be a battle of the offenses, it will be a battle of the defenses. Baltimore has an extraordinary LB core. With such players as Ray Lewis and Terrel Suggs. Anywhere you go Ray Lewis is going to be in your face. The Ravens have a good offense although, Joe Flacco is not as good as he was last year. He is making careless throws into the secondary. He has to watch that or this extremely good Steeler secondary will eat him up. They have a good HB. Ray Rice was good last year but has also lost some power in a year. Now something that is good for the Ravens is an excellent receiving group. Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Todd Heap, and T.J. Houshmanzadah all are average to good players.

Now the Steelers also have an extraordinary LB core and they also have a great secondary. Like Troy Polamalu for instance. This guy is also in on every play. Whenever I watch the Steelers play. Polamalu and his million dollar locks are in on every play. The Steelers do not have the best offense this year. Of course the absence of Ben Roethlisberger hasn't helped none. Dennis Dixon was doing good until his injury then they plummited. The Steelers have got to beat this Ravens defense or they don't stand a chance. Now I will make my pick.

I believe that the Ravens are going to win this game.

My NFL Week 2 Key Matchup

NFL Football is back and I am happier than ever! I am also very glad that I get to do my weekly picks. You know, they give you a bunch of games and you pick who you think is going to win. It is fun but can be frustrating when the "high favorite" loses. So this week I am going to tell you who I think is going to win in a matchup.

Dallas vs. Houston. So this week Romo and the boys are going down to Houston to see if they kick some Texans this week. It is going to be extremely hard for the Boys to beat a team that is 2-0. I am thinking that it is going to be a repeat of that preseason game, where the Texans kicked the boys out of Reliant Stadium. Now Dallas is 2nd in passing yards this year(surprisingly) but they haven't won a game. They Cowboys might have won in Week one, if OL Alex Barron could have kept his hands to himself, and avoided that holding call. Then last week the Boys stayed home to play the Bears. They got runover by the Bears offense, but the Cowboys offense also did a great job at scoring. It just wasn't enough to win the game.
Now I will talk about the Texans. Absolutely great team. The best I have seen them play in years. Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson are at the height of their career. In Week 1 they took on the Colts and kicked the tail off of them. They made Peyton Manning look like a Rookie. I was very impressed with how well the Texans moved the ball. Adrian Foster also looked great with several TD's in that game. Then in Week 2 the Texans come close to a loss as they go into OT against the Skins. McNabb was looking good and so was Schaub, but the Texans prevailed 30-27 OT. So now with all the stats out of the way, here is my pick. I am expecting the Texans to win like they did in the preseason. Go Texans!

The question I am asking is has the National Football League gone soft. My answer is yes. Football used to be nothing but contact. It used to be were players were muddy, bleeding, and sweating. You don't see that anymore. The NFL are treating these players like they are a bunch of little kids. Roughing the passer, really! The QB's are on the field, they have padding, and are wearing helmets. They are as vulnerable as any other player on the field. Now I will say there should be cases where they should call it. Like when the ball is clearly out of the QB's hands and then he gets laid out. Then they should throw the flag.

Helmet to helmet should also be allowed. But if the ball is nowhere near the WR, and he gets hit in the head. They should throw it. There should be exeptions with penalties. They should let the men play. It is a contact sport and they should leave it that way. I understand that they make these rules to protect the players but you should let them do there thing.

Some people don't like it when players celebrate. Personally I like it. I think celebration should spread to the NCAA. If you work hard for that touchdown you deserve to celebrate for it. I think it is hilarious when someone does a little dance in the endzone for their efforts. Drop the taunting rule NCAA and let the players boogie down!

The NFL has gone soft off the field as well. Like for instance Ben Roethlisberger. First his suspension was for 6 games, then the NFL made it for only 4 games. I feel what Big Ben did was disgraceful. He was a role model for probably a lot of kids and he goes and has an affair with some woman. I feel the same as Terry Bradshaw. Terry Bradshaw on the FOX pregame show told Ben how he felt. He said, " If it were my team he'd be gone." I agree 100%. The NFL should have made it 6 games.

This NFL Preseason I have been surprised. Mainly about the trades and people that have been released. Here are some Preseason players that have shocked me....

First off, Jake Delhomme. Jake Delhomme was my former fav player from the Carolina Panthers. But after that 18 INT year, my favorite switched to DeAngelo Williams. But apparently Jake is doing good in Cleveland. He seems comfortable in the pocket and he is taking his time throwing. Unlike last year throwing for only a little over 2,000 yards. Don't throw away your autographed Delhomme gear yet he might be something. But he hasn't played a full game yet, so I am not impressed. If he takes the Browns to the playoffs.

Next, Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore. I believe everyone has been surprised by these two. I honestly expected Moore to step up and take the lead role. He hasn't been showing that yet. Clausen seems more comfy in the pocket than Moore. But the Panthers need a better OL(offensive line). What they need to do is teach the veteran Jordan Gross patience at the line. He has been playing too long to be doing be giving up five yards every snap.

Another player that has surprised me this preseason, Sam Bradford. Sam Bradford has been really good. His first game was a little rough but the last two games he has played like a veteran. Just recently he helped his team beat the Patriots. I believe that this guy is the real deal. He is SO much better the Bulger will ever be. Bradford's arm is young and it helps that he went to a good college. Look out for this dude! He will be giving Defensive coordinators nightmares for a long time.

The last player I will mention is Kevin Kolb. Very few people have heard of him. He did play a little last year with McNabb's injury but never really got the time to shine. Now he has a chance. I don't think Vick stands a chance against this guy. The last game I saw Vick play in, he threw two INTs in a couple of minutes! Kolb doesn't have the legs that Vick has but at least Kolb can throw.

As some of you may know that the NFL regular season is almost upon us. And some may be having trouble of who they are going to pick for their Fantasy team. Well I have a little advice. If you are picking your QB's look at their touchdowns not their passing yards. Passing yards are great and all but they don't win football games. Then look at their interceptions. If the interceptions are in the twenties, I would recommend looking at the other page.

Now who would be a good candidate for your QB pick. Well first off Drew Brees is a definite contender. Last year he threw for 34 TD's and 4,388 yards. Not to shabby. But the guy I am looking at this year to step up, is Matt Schaub. Last year he threw for over 4,770 yards and 29 touchdowns. Now if you listen closely you can here snoring. It is time for the sleeper. Matt Leinart is my sleeper. He was always held back by the retired Kurt Warner, and has never really gotten his chance to shine. This might be his year to really make it happen. Now here are some picks that may turn out to be something this year. Because of how much McNabb is injury prone it would be a safe bet to get the backup Rex Grossman as your second quarterback. Another one, Charlie Whitehurst from the Seattle Seahawks. Matt Hassleback is also a guy struggling with injuries. Charlie Whitehurst his is backup. The problem is. Whitehurst has never thrown a regular season pass in his career. Next...Who not to buy. Jake Delhomme is totally not someone I would buy. Unless you are a Browns fan and you want to stay loyal to your team. Last year he only threw for a little over 2,000 yards. And 8 TD's and 18 INT's in only 12 games. The best bet would be to get Seneca Wallace. I hope my advice will help some of you with your fantasy football picks.

My Top 10 MLB Players

Today I will talk about my top 10 Favorite MLB players. I will start with four and put the other favs in future blogs. Let the Countdown begin!

Number 10

Roy Halladay

Ta-Da, here is #10 on my list. On the night of May 29th, the Philadelphia Phillies played the Florida Marlins. The starting pitcher was Roy Halladay. Not long before this game Halladay was traded from Toronto to Philadelphia. This game was a great night for Halladay because he retired all 27 at bats the Marlins gave him. In other words he pitched the second perfect game in the Phillie's history. The only other pitcher to do this was Jim Bunning. In 1964 he pitched a perfect game against the NY Mets. Now that I gave a highlight of Halladay here are some stats:

• Halladay first started playing for Toronto in 1998

• Halladay was traded to Phillie on December 16th, 2009

• Halladay's ERA is 2.40

• 131 strikeouts

• Ranks 1st in NL with 154 innings pitched

So with these stats I would say that he is one of the best pitchers in the MLB today. In my personal opinion one day he will be in the Hall of Fame.

Number 9

Albert Pujols

On the evening of June 14th, the St. Louis Cardinals played the Seattle Mariners. Albert Pujols of the Cardinals was sliding into home plate when outfielder Jose Lopez of the Mariners threw the ball to home and hit Pujols in the back of the head. Pujols was able to come back into the game he just had a great big welt on the back of his head. Now that I have gave a highlight of Pujols it is time for some stats.

• Albert Pujols was drafted to the Cardinals in 1999

• Pujols has a .307 batting average

• 21 HR

• 64 RBIs

Albert Pujols has been one of the best hitters in the MLB for a while now. He has a really unique batting style. He squats low to the ground with his bat high. I think this is why he is one of the best home run hitters. I have no doubt if he can hit 21 home runs he can make it to the hall of fame.

Number 8

Joe Mauer

Congratulations! Joe Mauer you are my numero eight fave player. First, an in game highlight for Joe Mauer. During a game the evening of May 2nd, Joe Mauer was sliding into first when he bruised his heel. Now, from personal experience, I hurt my heel one time and I was out of commission for a while. Now that I gave a highlight or in other words a dim light(pun intended), it is time for some stats on Mauer.

• Mauer was drafted to the Twins in 2001

• Hasn't been traded to any other team

• He has a .297 BA

• (Surprisingly) only 4 home runs

• 40 RBIs

Now looking at these stats I would say he is one of the best hitters. He doesn't strikeout but %9.9 of the time. That is %91.1 that are mainly hits. I will admit 4 HR after the All-Star break is not good. He is one of my favorite baseball players (not because he is on one of my fave video games) because he has hit a bunch of runs and runs batted in.


Number 7

Stephen Strasburg

My number seven pick is Jamie Moyer( KIDDING!) Actually it is Stephen Strasburg from the Washington Nationals. This kid ROCKS! He just started playing about two months ago and he is great. For example, every baseball fan heard about Strasburg's first major league start. Strasburg pitched against the Pittsburg Pirates on June 8th. A sell out crowd of over 40,000 stood as he threw the first pitch, Aww! Man a 97mph fastball thrown for a ball. Although the first pitch was a ball, he pitched for 7 innings with 14 strikeouts. He only had one blemish, he gave a two runner in the game. Needless to say a good big league start. Now that I gave a highlight time for some stats.

• Strasburg was drafted in the first round by the Washington Nationals

• Has 2.32 ERA with a 5-2 W-L record

• 75 Strikeouts

• This season has allowed only 3 HRs

Now from what you have read wouldn't you say that Strasburg is one of the best pitchers today? I would. I can't wait to see this guy pitch a perfect game and trust me it is COMING!

What Has Happened to A.J. Burnett?

Is the Yankees hurler on the slide?

Is it me or has A.J. Burnett of the New York Yankees been on a down-slide lately? One example came on the afternoon of July 17th. Burnett was pitching against Reid Brignac of the Tampa Bay Rays and gave up a two run homer. Later he threw a wild pitch and hit Evan Longoria. The final straw came when Carlos Pena hit an RBI off of him producing another score. His own frustration ended his day in just the third innning (Yankees can't overcome Burnett's short start). Manager Joe Girardi had to pull him from the game.

Here's a little background on Burnett:

• He's 33 years old
  
• Has been playing in the major leagues for eleven years
• Played for the Marlins from 1999 (his debut in the MLB) until 2005
• Played for the Blue Jays from 2006 until 2008
• In 2003 until mid-2004 he was out for Tommy John surgery
• He ended his first game of the 2007 season with a 27.00 era
• in 2008 he led the league with 231 strikeouts

When he was playing with the Marlins (I believe those were the best years of his career) he led the NL with 5 shutouts, Now his ERA is over 6.00 and his losses outweigh his wins. To me this is a sign that A.J. Burnett is either getting old or losing his touch. I bet the Yankees are wishing they would've gotten him in his younger days. In my opinion, Burnett is on the ropes, and eventually those ropes are going to snap. In his case, his weak rope is his arm. The Tommy John surgery may have actually hurt him. It seems like everyone who gets this surgery comes out worse than when they went in. I believe Burnett is going to go from the Yankees eventually, and it will be soon.

The Officials

Love 'em or hate 'em, the men in stripes are here to stay

Nobody loves an official. While watching baseball, have you ever wanted to yell, "Kill the umpire!" Ever since they were brought into sports they have been known to make the dumbest calls we've ever seen.

For example, during the recent World Cup, USA player Maurice Edu kicked the ball into his opponent's goal, but a penalty was called on the USA team. Replay clearly showed that it should have been called on the opposing team (Slovenia). If that goal would have counted, the USA would have possibly remained in the running for the World Cup.

Another example comes from baseball. Detroit's pitcher Armando Galarraga was close to pitching a perfect game when the umpire, Jim Joyce, messed it up. The ball was thrown to the first baseman with the runner still about a foot away. The first baseman caught the ball with his foot on the bag before the runner got there, but Joyce called the runner safe. My eyes bugged out when I saw that replay. Honestly, I think Instant Replay needs to be used a lot more in baseball.

Don't even get me started on football, where they always seem to call the wrong player on holding or call holding where there wasn't any holding at all. How many times have we seen them call pass interference on a player when the ball was uncatchable. Also, let's not forget that the Denver Broncos lost to the San Diego Chargers last season when Ed Hochuli's whistle malfunctioned. I'm being sarcastic. It didn't malfunction, he just blew it TOO SOON!

It's needless to say that officials make mistakes--they can surely put the err in error. Love 'em or hate 'em, they will always be a part of sports--so maybe I should just try to get used to them.
